The objective of the project is to make operational the eTIR procedure in Caucasus and Central Asia by creating an electronic TIR transport corridor. The TIR Secretariat following mandate provided by the TIR Convention undertakes several activities in order to interconnect the eTIR international system which is developed and hosted by the TIR secretariat with the national customs systems of the contracting parties to the TIR Convention. In order for eTIR procedure to be implemented, eTIR transport corridors should be developed starting using the eTIR procedure. The Central Asian countries, contracting parties to the TIR Convention are the higher users of the TIR carnets today. Already, some countries in the Caucasus and Central Asia such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Uzbekistan have finalized the interconnection project. The secretariat has initiated the interconnection project with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan while considerable actions will be undertaken during 2024, the interconnection project to start for the rest of the countries such as Turkmenistan.
